When I flew to San Diego last summer for a conference, we ended up with a $200 voucher after our landing gear didn’t go up and we waited in the Boise airport for hours and hours. I’ve always wanted to go to Portland so I booked a flight and a hotel and had my sister Katie drive up from Medford to meet me for the weekend.
Our first order of business was to go to Ikea, which was right next to the hotel and then we were off to dinner. Kate used the GPS to locate a seafood restaurant and off we went in search of it. However, when we found it, we quickly changed our minds…a bar was not quite what we had in mind…
So instead, we went to a really fun German restaurant not too far away. The food was good and the atmosphere was fun.
On Saturday we drove downtown and went to a Farmer’s market at the University Campus. After looking at all of the booths we got a crepe to share and sat and listened to this bluegrass band…
We wandered around Portland some and saw some interesting things…a beautiful church…
…a crazy van…
and Sacajawea mural…
We went to Powell’s and then had dinner at this little Mediterranean restaurant. They served this huge pita as an appetizer. We ate the whole thing and took our gyro’s back to the hotel with us.
On Sunday, before I had to fly home, we went to Multnomah Falls and hiked around. It was beautiful and a great ending to a fun trip.
